Concordia speakers bureau offers presentations

The Concordia Lutheran Ministries Speakers Bureau has senior-care professionals available to speak to organizations and community groups free of charge.

Topics available include fall prevention, chronic disease management, senior nutrition, senior living, advance directives, end of life decision making, health and wellness, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease education, nutrition for a healthy lifestyle and more. A full list of topics is available.

Apollo Meals on Wheels seeking volunteer help

Apollo Area Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers to help prepare meals and deliver meals to clients.

Hours for kitchen help are 7 to 9 a.m. and drivers 9 to 11 a.m., both Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays. For details, call the office at 724-478-3117.

Thursday: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Buffalo Township

Friday: A fundraiser to benefit Buffalo Elementary PTO will be from 4 to 9 p.m. at La Vigneta Winery, 110 S. Pike Road. There will be an outdoor flatbread pizza bar and 20% of drink sales and 25% of pizza sales will be donated to the PTO.

Oct. 31: Buffalo Elementary PTO is conducting a spirit wear sale online at tinyurl.com/3r6vhb8d. Pickup: 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at the school. Order deadline: Oct. 31.

Cheswick

Freeport

Today: The Thrift Store Clothing Ministry at Freeport United Methodist Church, 211 Fourth St., will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items are free, but donations will be accepted. Items available include clothing of all sizes, bedding and window items. Donations of clothing, shoes and boots welcome; must be laundered and free from smoke and pet hair. Wheelchair accessible. Thursday: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison  

Today: The Becky’s Closet community clothing store at Faith Lutheran Church, 1500 Broadview Blvd., will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Cost: adult tops and bottoms, 50 cents; children’s clothing, 25 cents. Please bring small bills and your own bags. Donations welcome during these hours. Everyone welcome.

Today: The Agape Thrift Shop at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Clean clothing in all sizes is needed. No housewares or bedding please due to lack of space. Bring donations on Wednesday or leave them on the front porch. Do not place donations in the blue bins behind the church.

Today: Allegheny Valley Association of Churches Food Bank will be open from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 1913 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights. Food bank participants can receive food allotments twice per month. Those who are not yet registered should come from 3 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Friday: Allegheny Valley YMCA will host an evening of fun for adults from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Y, 5021 Freeport Road. There will be pickleball games, music and refreshments. Must be at least 18. Admission: $10 per person for members and non-members. Details: vpfymca.org.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday : Community Library of Allegheny Valley will offer a free workshop to make a jug planter of native plants at the library, 1522 Broadview Blvd. Penn State Master Gardener Ena Seltzer will lead the workshop. New recipients can register Thursday.

Thursday: The diaper pantry at St. Mark Lutheran Church will distribute free diapers from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church, 600 Pittsburgh St. Advance registration required. First-time recipients must provide their own ID, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card. Distributions are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Nov. 2: Saturday Adventure Time at Springdale Freeport Public Library will host a screening of “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” for children in prekindergarten through sixth grade at 11 a.m. at the library, 331 School St. Children are encouraged to wear pajamas. Nov. 15: Springdale Free Public Library is accepting orders for pies and pumpkin rolls from The Pie Shoppe in Laughlintown.
