Volunteers welcome at cleanup day at Apollo’s Jackson Mansion
The Gen. Samuel McCartney Jackson Foundation will sponsor an outdoor cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon at the Jackson Mansion, 411 Terrace Ave., Apollo.
The event will be held in cooperation with the Armstong County Civil War Roundtable. Bring pruning shears, rakes, gloves, hedge trimmers and other yardwork tools.
The Jackson Mansion is the original home of Gen. Samuel M. Jackson who led the Apollo Independent Blues and Company G of the 40th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers in the Civil War.
HOPE Center accepting household donations
The Alle-Kiski HOPE Center is seeking donations of household items for the clients it serves. The center provides free and confidential services to survivors of domestic violence and their families.
Items most needed include bath sets containing a shower curtain, bathmat, toothbrush holder and soap dish, underwear, slippers in all sizes; hairbrushes, combs, lotion, lip balm, curling irons and new makeup.
Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the administration office, 500 E. Eighth Ave., Tarentum. If you are ordering online, request delivery to this address. For details, call 724-224-1100 or visit akhopecenter.org.
Local cat sanctuary seeking volunteers
Zen Cat Sanctuary, a nonprofit cat shelter in New Kensington, is seeking volunteer help.
People are needed to provide daily care, including feeding, cleaning and socializing, participate in fundraising events and provide administrative support.
