Champion’s Crusaiders and Five Forces plan purse bingo

A designer purse bingo will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 2 at West Leechburg Firehall, 1116 Gosser Road.

Doors open at 11 a.m. Admission is $40 and includes cards for 10 regular games, specials, a light lunch, water and pop. There will be walk-arounds, strip tickets and a 50-50 raffle.

Proceeds will benefit Champion’s Crusaiders Rescue and Five Forces veterans charity. For tickets, send a message on the Champions Rescue Facebook page .


Westmoreland County Marines to supply Christmas groceries

Westmoreland County Marines will provide Christmas groceries to local veterans’ families in need.

Registration is required by Nov. 15. Families must include an honorably discharged or active duty veteran and live in Lower Burrell, Upper Burrell, New Kensington, Arnold, Vandergrift, Leechburg or Apollo to be eligible. To register, email Jim Walters at waltersusmc@comcast.net with full name, address, telephone number and branch of service.

Funds for the project come from local residents and businesses. To make a financial donation, mail a check payable to Westmoreland County Marines, in care of Jim Walters, 176 Hilltop Drive, Lower Burrell PA 15068.


Congratulations to Kiski Area Marching Band

The Kiski Area High School Marching Band won first place overall at the Bands of America Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship held Oct. 19 in Newark, Del.

The band earned first place in the Outstanding Music Performance and Outstanding General Effect categories and second place for Outstanding Visual Performance.

The group had also placed first Sept. 21 at the Bands of America Central Ohio Regional Championship in Obetz, Ohio.

Sunday: The flea market planned at Markle Firehall is cancelled.

Sunday: The Kiski Area Marching Band Fall Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the high school Gym B. There will be food, crafters, baked goods and vendors.

Apollo
