Leechburg fundraiser to aid local scholarship fund
A fundraiser to benefit the Ricky Albert Memorial Scholarship Fund will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Cicero’s Bar and Grill, 115 Third St., Leechburg.
There will be music by LTZ, food trucks and a basket raffle. The fund awards scholarships annually to seniors from Leechburg Area and Kiski Area high schools.
History program to discuss firefighting
Victorian Vandergrift Museum and Historical Society will host a free program about the history of firefighting at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Golstrom Hall, 176 Sherman Ave., Vandergrift.
Dr. William M. Oleksak will discuss firefighting and display artifacts from the 1840s to the 1940s. Reservations are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. For reservations, call 724-568-1990 or text 724-448-1851.
Helping hands needed at Leechburg Recycling Center
The Leechburg Recycling Center is looking for people to give their time working at the center, 104 Lovelace Road, Leechburg.
Volunteers can work as little or as much as they like and should be at least 13 years old. To give your time, stop in at the center during operating hours of 8 to 11 a.m. weekdays.

Sunday: A fall festival will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Mature Living, 981 Pleasant Hill Road. There will be vendors, a silent auction, games, pumpkin painting and a photo booth. Public welcome.

Oct. 12: St. James Parish, Apollo, will sponsor a Night at the Races at 7 p.m. at the parish activities center, 109 Owens View Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and light fare will be available at 6 p.m. Cost: $20, includes food and a horse. There will be a basket raffle, instant lottery ticket raffle, pull tabs and a 50-50. Those present will be entered into a drawing to win $500. Sunday: Boy Scout Troop 186 will host their annual chicken barbecue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or until sold out on the lawn of Guardian Angels Parish at the corner of Broadview Blvd. and Montana Avenue, Natrona Heights. Oct. 19: Entries are being accepted for a chili cook-off planned at the city’s Fall Festival. Amateur cooks in teams of up to three people are welcome. All ingredients must be cooked on site. Cooking will begin at noon and judging will be at 4 p.m. Chili will be judged on taste, appearance and aroma. First prize: $100.
