Masquerade ball planned in Leechburg

Leechburg Area Community Association will sponsor a masquerade ball from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Marconi Club, 135 River Ave., Leechburg.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. There will be hot appetizers, desserts, a DJ, a cash bar, basket raffle, a 50-50 and prizes for best dressed. Come dressed as you like, but formal attire is recommended. Must be 21.

Cost is $30 or $50 per couple. For tickets, stop in at Leechburg Public Library, 139 Market St. or at the door.

• First Lutheran Church, 358 Main St., hosts a GriefShare support group for anyone who has lost a loved one at 6 p.m. Mondays through Dec. 9 in the church social hall. Oakmont

• St. Thomas Memorial Episcopal Church, 378 Delaware Ave., invites the public to bring their pets for a blessing service at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. The event is in honor of St. Francis of Assisi.

Tarentum

• Central Presbyterian Church, 305 Allegheny St., will have a Blessing of the Animals ceremony at noon Sunday on the church lawn. In case of rain the event will be inside the church. Public welcome. Details: 724-224-9220.

• Central Presbyterian Church will host a traditional Bible study series, “Parables and the Reign of God,” at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, 305 Allegheny St. The series will continue the second Tuesday of each month through May. Sunday: A fall festival will be from 2 to 5 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Mature Living, 981 Pleasant Hill Road. There will be vendors, a silent auction, games, pumpkin painting and a photo booth. Public welcome.

Apollo

Oct. 12: St. James Parish, Apollo, will sponsor a Night at the Races at 7 p.m. at the parish activities center, 109 Owens View Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and light fare will be available at 6 p.m. Cost: $20, includes food and a horse. There will be a basket raffle, instant lottery ticket raffle, pull tabs and a 50-50. Those present will be entered into a drawing to win $500. Today: Saxonburg Council and Armstrong will host a free Movie Night at 7:30 p.m. in Roebling Park. Bring a blanket or chair.
