Free smoke alarms available to qualified Arnold homes

Arnold Fire Engine Company No. 2 and the American Red Cross will install free 10-year lithium battery smoke alarms from noon to 4 p.m. by appointment on Saturday in homes in Arnold.

To be eligible, homes must have no smoke alarms in every bedroom and on every floor, have alarms that have yellowed, have old batteries or have alarms that are at least 10 years old. Up to four alarms will be installed in each home. Alarms will not be passed out; they will be installed.

Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company to sponsor annual carnival

The annual Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company carnival will continue from 6 to 10 p.m. today through Saturday at the firemen’s grounds, 268 Canal St.

There will be quarter bingo, food, games and rides.

Benefit concert planned in Hyde Park

Hyde Park Volunteer Fire Company and Alle-Kiski Valley Back the Blue will host a benefit concert from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the firehall, 291 Railroad St.

Admission is $10. Performances will be by Martin Vincent, Marshall & the Deputies, Heidi and the Hellcats, Miss Freddye’s Blues Band, Curtis and Black ‘N Blue and Lenny Collini Family Pak. There will be food, beverages, raffles and auctions. A fireworks display will be at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting. No outside food or beverages are permitted.

Proceeds will benefit first responders, Alle-Kiski Back the Blue and Tunnels for Towers.

Sunday: St. James Parish is selling tickets for a grocery giveaway raffle. Cost: $10, includes two numbers. The group will be at the casino for five hours. Cost: $35, includes $10 in free play and gratuity for the bus driver. A state-issued photo ID is required to receive the free play. Saturday : The Outdoor Discovery Center at Crooked Creek will offer a program about cooking and preserving edible mushrooms at noon at the center, 142 Kerr Road. Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50/50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: A food truck festival will be from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament location of Guardian Angels Parish, Natrona Heights. Saturday and Sunday: The Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center will host its annual Native American Powwow from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the center, 120 Charles St., Dorseyville. There will be Native American food, arts and crafts, singing, drumming and dancing. Admission: $6; elders and children younger than 12, $4. Group rates are available.
