A tow truck driver in Fox Chapel was injured after a vehicle he was attempting to secure broke free and dragged him over an embankment, Allegheny County Police reported.

Officers said they were dispatched shortly before 1 p.m. Monday for a vehicle over an embankment off Latourelle Lane.

Preliminary information indicates the tow truck operator attempted to stop the vehicle he was securing after it broke free but could not.

Foxwall EMS Chief Ben Shopland said the man was transported to a local trauma center in critical but stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the County Police Tip Line at 833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
