Five Alle-Kiski Valley communities have changed trick-or-treat plans this Halloween due to a stormy weather forecast.
Lower Burrell, Avonmore, Kiski Township, Saxonburg and North Apollo have all rescheduled trick-or-treating for Saturday, Nov. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Other Alle-Kiski Valley communities have not rescheduled trick-or-treating yet and many are continuing with plans to trick-or-treat through the rain Thursday. It has been pushed to Saturday in other places in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.
The National Weather Service is calling for a 90% chance of rain Thursday, with wind gusts reaching up to 20 or 30 mph. The rain is expected to continue through the evening.
Some communities had already planned Halloween festivities on other days. In Frazer, trick-or-treating has always been scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1.
“We don’t have many residential areas, so we allow our residents to pick a date, and they always pick a Friday,” said Lori Ziencik, township supervisor and township secretary.
Arnold and Hyde Park each held trick-or-treating last Saturday, Oct. 26, and Gilpin’s is Wednesday. There will be a “trunk-or-treat” event at the Gilpin Township Volunteer Fire Department.
According to a release from Allegheny County sent Thursday at about 5 p.m., these Alle-Kiski Valley towns continued to have trick-or-treating scheduled to Thursday between 6 and 8 p.m.: Blawnox, Cheswick, East Deer, Fox Chapel, Frazer, Harmar, Harrison, Indiana Township, Oakmont, O’Hara, Plum, Tarentum and Verona.
Springdale’s trick-or-treating will be held Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Aspinwall’s is from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
