Work to upgrade a natural gas facility along Coxcomb Hill Road in Plum is expected to be finished by early summer, according to a spokesperson for its owner.
The facility is a metering and regulation station, which “takes interstate pipeline pressure and regulates it down to distribution line pressure so natural gas can be sent to residential and commercial properties through the smaller pipes,” said Ann Nallo, spokesperson for BHE GT&S. It’s an interstate natural gas transmission and storage company headquartered in Richmond, Va., and a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy.
The project is under Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage, which is a subsidiary of BHE GT&S.
The facility dates to the 1950s, when it was bought by New York State Natural Gas Corp., which was a predecessor of Eastern Gas Transmission and Storage, Nallo said.
Work started in November.
“Facility upgrades now being performed will allow greater flexibility and redundancy to provide natural gas to Peoples Natural Gas for distribution to local customers,” she said.
The upgrades include a measurement building and an associated instrumentation and control room, both about 10 by 20 feet, with upgraded pipes, valves, fittings and filters.
About 0.7-acre was added to complete the work, Nallo said.
