A Vandergrift woman was ordered to serve five years on probation for her role in the theft of more than $30,000 from a roommate over a two-year period that ended in April 2022.

Rebecca Lynn Hubert, 56, pleaded guilty to charges of theft and receiving stolen property as part of a deal that prosecutors said reflects a mitigated sentence that will allow her an opportunity to repay her victim.

Hubert was charged by Washington Township police after they received reports from her live-in companion that she repeatedly used his debit card without consent to make a series of purchases. Police said Hubert used the man’s banking information and social security number to open at least four accounts through Amazon.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears sentenced Hubert to probation and ordered she pay more than $34,000 in restitution. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed charges of forgery, access device fraud and criminal use of a communications device.

In a separate matter, Hubert, who has been in custody since her unsecured bail was revoked on Jan. 30, pleaded guilty to an unrelated drug charge filed last year by Allegheny Township police. Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio paroled her after imposing a sentence of 60 days to 12 months in jail.
