Warrant suspect accused of fleeing from police in Harrison ordered to stand trial
A man accused of trying to ditch a stolen gun and drugs as he fled from police officers attempting to arrest him for warrants in two counties has been ordered to stand trial.
Warren Paul “Boo” Greenleaf Jr., 39, of College Avenue in Mt. Pleasant, was charged Nov. 15 with two counts of possession of drugs with the intent to deliver, receiving stolen property and fleeing from police. All are felonies.
He also was charged with four counts of misdemeanor drug possession and counts of illegal possession of a firearm and tampering with evidence.
Greenleaf was ordered to stand trial on all of the charges during a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Carolyn Bengel. Formal arraignment in Allegheny County Court is scheduled for Jan. 29.
He was being detained in the Allegheny County Jail after a judge ruled he is a danger to the community and denied setting bail.
Police say Greenleaf was wanted on felony warrants out of Allegheny and Armstrong counties for multiple drug and firearm charges and was out on bail when he was arrested.
Greenleaf is not allowed to possess a gun because he has three previous felony convictions: drug delivery in 2003 and 2004, and illegal possession of a firearm in 2012, court records show.
Authorities say officers from Harrison, Tarentum and New Kensington, as well as agents with the state Attorney General’s Office and the Westmoreland County Drug Task Force, were watching Greenleaf on Nov. 14 when he sped off as they tried to pull him over.
Police say Greenleaf fled on foot after his vehicle became disabled when he tried to drive through a vacant lot on Spruce Street.
While being chased, Greenleaf tossed a loaded pistol that was reported stolen in September, police said.
He also tried to discard a cellphone and a “chest pack” filled with “a large amount” of cocaine and marijuana, investigators said.
Police also searched homes on Walnut and Garfield streets after Greenleaf was arrested and confiscated narcotic packaging material, ammunition and marijuana.
In May 2022, Greenleaf was arrested in North Buffalo after a state trooper accused him of having cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy and a loaded pistol in his vehicle during a traffic stop for tinted windows and an expired inspection sticker.
He was charged with four felony counts of possession of drugs with the intent to deliver and a felony count of illegal possession of a firearm, as well as with DUI, drug possession and three traffic violations.
