Two Alle-Kiski Valley townships have been awarded $100,000 in state funding for improvement projects.

The money for West Deer and Fawn comes from Allegheny County’s Gaming Economic Development Fund Grant. The program is funded through gambling revenues and doesn’t use money from the state general fund money.

West Deer’s money will pay for improvements to Bairdford Park, including the wall behind the baseball fields, stormwater improvements, installation of security cameras and pavilion renovations.

Fawn will use the money to reconstruct Metz Road from Bull Creek Road to Ridge Road. Crews will be replacing 350 feet of guardrail.

State Rep. Bob Brooks, R-Murrysville, who represents the 54th Legislative District, advocated for the grants.

“I’m happy GEDF recognized the value in these projects,” Brooks said. “The Fawn Township project will improve our roadways and help to remediate flood waters and landslides.

“The West Deer Township project will enhance outdoor recreation opportunities. With improved roads and park renovations, it will help to boost the economy by bringing residents of neighboring communities into the area.”

In the Alle-Kiski Valley, the state 54th House District includes Allegheny Township, Fawn, Harrison, Lower Burrell, Upper Burrell and West Deer. It also includes Murrysville, Export and Penn Township in Westmoreland County.
