West Leechburg travelers can expect to encounter construction in the Hillville area of town.

Borough officials announced in a social media post that there will be intermittent road closures and roadwork centered around West Street.

The closures will allow Peoples Natural Gas and its contractor to replace natural gas lines in the area.

The project is anticipated to last a few weeks, officials said.

According to a construction map from Peoples, work is set to be done in the areas of West Street, Rowe Lane, Locust Lane, Main Street and Bell Avenue.

“Currently, West Street is closed between Summit and Peach Lane while crews tie in a new section of pipeline to the existing main line,” Peoples spokesperson, Nick Paradise said in an email. “That closure is expected to last (through Thursday). There will be another closure on that stretch of West in approximately three weeks to tie in another new section of pipe. We are projecting that to last for two days. These timelines are subject to change based upon weather and other factors.”

Other temporary closures within the project footprint will be during the work hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Paradise said. Work will be completed block by block to limit closures.

Residents who live in the area and emergency vehicles will be able to gain access to roads.

Aside from the closures on West Street, there are no other closures projected outside of working hours, Paradise said.

The work is part of Peoples’ long-term infrastructure improvement plan, including upgrading more than 3,000 miles of mainline and service lines throughout 18 Western Pennsylvania counties. About 200 miles of pipeline will be replaced per year.
