Arnold police accused a woman of being high and slapping an officer in the face when he pulled her over for careless driving.
Lucy Lynn Haun, 33, of the 200 block of Campbell Avenue in Leechburg was charged with a felony count of aggravated assault along with three drug-related charges and counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and careless driving.
Haun was detained in the Westmoreland County jail after her arrest. She was released from custody Monday after a family member posted a $500 bond, or 10% of the $5,000 bail set at her arraignment.
Haun faces a preliminary hearing before District Judge Frank J. Pallone Jr. on Thursday, May 18.
An Arnold police officer working with the Westmoreland County DUI Task Force on May 5 was traveling along Tarentum Bridge Road in New Kensington when a red Mazda crossed into his lane and nearly struck his police cruiser, according to a criminal complaint.
The officer said the driver had a cellphone in one hand. She was pulled over in the parking lot of Massa Harbison Park on Oates Boulevard, the complaint said.
Police said there was a strong odor of burnt marijuana in the car. Haun told the officer she was heading to a dispensary after leaving work and showed him her medical marijuana card.
Haun showed the officer a prescription bottle with the remainder of several marijuana blunts that had been smoked, police said. Police noted in the complaint that the state does not allow patients in its program to smoke medical marijuana, which must be consumed in some other form.
Haun refused multiple orders to get out of the car, the complaint said, and was flailing and kicking when officers tried to remove her.
Haun was able to get an arm free while officers tried to handcuff her; she hit one of them in the face, investigators said.
While struggling with officers, Haun tried to conceal three plastic baggies filled with a white crystal in her waistband that she later admitted was methamphetamine, police said.
Haun let officers search the vehicle, and a police dog that was on the scene detected the presence of narcotics inside, the complaint said.
Police said they found a container of medical marijuana in the car, along with a marijuana cigarette butt and a baggie covered in a white residue. Before being placed in a cell to await arraignment, Haun handed over a straw that is used to snort drugs, the complaint said.
Investigators said she refused to allow blood to be drawn so it could be tested for the presence of drugs or alcohol in her system.
