With a temporary span installed, work is continuing to replace a bridge over a creek between Plum and Upper Burrell.
Pugliano Construction of Plum is working on the $1 million project to replace Pucketa Creek Bridge No. 5, which carries Lincoln Beach Drive over the creek.
Allegheny and Westmoreland counties co-own the bridge, which is just off state-owned Greensburg Road.
Traffic lanes on Greensburg Road have been shifted and narrowed during the work, including construction of the temporary bridge.
On Thursday, with dry weather and sunny skies, workers were cutting beams on the old bridge in preparation for its removal. The existing bridge abutments will remain.
A crane will be brought in May 17 or 18 to remove the beams from the structure, said Brent Wasko, spokesman for the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.
“Construction of the new bridge is expected to begin in June,” he said. “The project remains on schedule to end in December.”
In addition to the bridge, work includes installation of new pavement, curb, drainage structures, guardrails, pavement markings and signage.
