Vilsack Road in Shaler reopened to traffic

The Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced today that Vilsack road in Shaler is open to through traffic after the completion of a $1.4 million bridge project.

The road project closed a section of the popular artery, between Mt. Royal Boulevard and Thompson Run Road, for more than three months.

The work included a bridge replacement, installation of new pavement and a guide rail, and other improvements.

The project finished about a month ahead of schedule, according to the county.

The contractor, Carmen Paliotta Contracting, Inc., of South Park, worked on the section of Vilsack from Morewood Road to Sunnyfield Drive.

Although traffic was detoured during the road project, residents could still access their homes.
