Teachers found weapons on two Sto-Rox students at security checkpoints at Sto-Rox Junior/Senior High School Friday morning, officials said.

Officials did not immediately describe what type of weapons were confiscated.

The first weapon was discovered in a student’s backpack at the checkpoint, Superintendent Megan Marie Van Fossan said in a letter sent to parents. Security was present, and the teacher followed emergency procedures by calling administrators, who contacted police.

The student carrying the weapon and their family, neither of whom were named, were interviewed by police and the student was sent home, Van Fossan said.

On the same morning, a teacher found a weapon in another child’s belongings at the security checkpoint. The teacher confiscated the weapon, and an administrator interviewed the child, who was sent home. A second child also was not named.

“While concerning, these incidents confirm this year’s newly implemented security systems are working,” Van Fossan said. “In both cases, our safety and security procedures kept students and staff safe today. The district will remain vigilant; training will continue to ensure everyone is as safe at school. We would also like to remind parents and guardians that students cannot have weapons in school. We must all do our part to keep Sto-Rox schools safe for every learner and teacher.”
