A Unity man whose probation has been revoked for a 2022 hit-and-run was arraigned Thursday on state police accusations that he broke into a Hempfield home and stole credit cards and guns.
Troopers said Bobby Paul Bryer, 33, offered tree trimming services to residents on Northumberland Drive in June. One resident told investigators he saw Bryer walking on his neighbor’s property Oct. 18, the same night the neighbor reported nine credit cards, a passport, six guns and ammunition missing from his house, according to court papers.
Purchases totaling $1,870 were made on the credit cards Oct. 18 and 19, police said. Troopers visited two of the stores and confirmed with employees and surveillance video that Bryer made the purchases.
He was accompanied by Trini N. Maldonado, 32, of Greensburg, according to court papers.
Bryer is charged with burglary, access device fraud, theft, corrupt organizations and trespass. Maldonado is charged with access device fraud, receiving stolen property and corrupt organizations. A warrant has been issued for her arrest and she did not have an attorney listed in online court records.
Bryer was denied bail Thursday and is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison. He is awaiting action in three other cases that involve charges of theft, receiving stolen property and a weapons violation.
After being arrested in those cases late last year, Bryer’s probation in the 2022 hit-and-run case was revoked. Police said he was behind the wheel of a Dodge pickup that hit a woman outside Union Mission in Derry Township in January 2022 and then drove away.
The woman was seriously hurt.
Bryer pleaded guilty in February 2023 to aggravated assault by vehicle and accidents involving injury and damage to property, according to court records. He was sentenced to six to 23 months in jail followed by three years of probation. He was ordered in December to remain detained and get drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations.
He did not have an attorney listed in the new case.
