Escape to the country (market)

Ligonier Country Market opens for the season on Saturday, with hours from 8 a.m.-noon at the market grounds at the west end of the borough. The popular community-based farmers market features dozens of vendors whose wares reflect the “Make-It, Bake-It, Grow-It” theme.

All items for sale at the weekly market must be grown, cooked, baked or made by the vendor. Plants are grown from seed, plant cuttings, plugs or vegetative propagation.

The 2021 market schedule also includes night markets in downtown Ligonier on June 17, July 15, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16; a harvest market on Sept. 25; and a Christmas market on Nov. 6.

Plenty of painting

Whether it’s a wall, a piece of furniture or a canvas, there will be something for everyone to paint on Saturday at Green Beacon Gallery in downtown Greensburg.

Paint Day is planned for 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the art space at 235 W. Pittsburgh St. Some paints, brushes, canvases and other art materials will be provided, but visitors also can bring their own materials. Spring Street Gallery in Latrobe will have some furniture items to paint, which will be available for sale at the end of the event. Spring Street also will have a truckload of vintage clothing, furniture and art for sale.

Although most of the action will take place outside in the gallery’s back lot, guests also can join in painting sections of the interior walls. Masks will be required and social distancing will be practiced.
