Retro rock

Rock all the way back to the ‘90s with two tribute shows this weekend at The Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin.

Best of Foo: Tribute to the Foo Fighters, 8 p.m. Friday.

Lounge Fly: A Tribute to Stone Temple Pilots, 8 p.m. Saturday.

Hot diggity dogs!

It’s “paw-ty” time from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the dog park at Hempfield Park, 220 Forbes Trail Road.

Hempfield Township Parks & Recreation will host the second annual Bark in the Park for furry four-footers and their owners, featuring pet photos, games and prizes.

The event is held in conjunction with Learning to Lead Dog Services of Monessen.

A $5 donation is requested. Registration is required at hempfieldtwp.com.

They’ve got rhythm

It’s a dance showcase weekend at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.

On Saturday, Sandra Lynn’s School of Dance will celebrate its 50th anniversary with an 11 a.m. performance by students and alumni of the Vandergrift studio. At 4:30 p.m., students and alumni from the Greensburg studio will take the stage. A ticket for either performance is $18.

On Sunday, M&M Dance Academy of Monroeville will present its 29th annual recital, beginning with solo dancers at 10 a.m., followed by duets, trios and groups at 11:30 a.m. A ticket is $20.

Gardening heritage

Indigenous peoples’ planting practices will be highlighted during Three Sisters Garden Day, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg.

Presenter will be Tonia Galban of the Akwesasne Mohawk Bear Clan and Ganondagan State Historic Site in Victor, N.Y. Guided by Galban, students from Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center designed, constructed, installed and planted a garden of the staple “three sisters” crop of corn, beans and squash on the museum grounds.

The program will include a tasting of Indigenous-inspired recipes catered by Myriam’s Table of Ligonier.

Art across the country

The first exhibition of the annual Westmoreland Art Nationals will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the Health & Culinary Center (formerly Commissioners Hall) at the Westmoreland County Community College Youngwood Campus, 145 Pavilion Lane.

Awards will be announced at 7 p.m.

The two-part art and photography competition draws entries from across the country and is held in conjunction with the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival.

The first show will be available for viewing from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday until June 7. The second exhibit will take place at Twin Lakes Park east of Greensburg from June 29 to July 2, during the festival, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. June 24.
