An Allegheny County man is facing charges after a dog was found last year on a Sewickley Township road with several wounds and missing fur, according to court papers.

Brian Davis, 21, of Duquesne, was charged Tuesday with animal cruelty and animal neglect.

A humane officer was called Sept. 23 to Scott Haven Road, according to court papers, after a dog was found with neck wounds, a black tar-like substance in its ears and large scabs on both sides of its face.

A witness reported Davis left the dog on the road, according to court papers.

Investigators tracked down the owners through a microchip on the dog, named Talbot. The owner told humane agents that he left the animal with relatives when he moved. Davis was a tenant at the relatives’ home and was abusive toward the dog and “hated” it, according to court papers. The relatives told investigators that the animal was sick but they couldn’t afford veterinarian care.

Davis no longer lives with them.

A summons has been issued. A July 20 court date is set. Davis did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He could not be reached.
