Beer and wine could be coming soon to the Sheetz on Harvey Avenue in Greensburg.

City council Monday unanimously approved a liquor license transfer from Hempfield, completing the first step in the process.

Sheetz now has to seek approval from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, which usually takes several months, according to Mark Kozar, attorney with Flaherty & O’Hara law office, which specializes in liquor license transfers and is representing Sheetz.

If the store gets PLCB approval, it will be remodeled to add a beer cave and seating for up to 30 patrons, according to Kozar.

State regulations require restaurants to be able to seat 30 to sell alcoholic beverages, but the vast majority of Sheetz’ beer and wine sales will be for take-out customers, Kozar said.

About 200 Pennsylvania Sheetz stores already have liquor licenses, according to Kozar.
