Residents of Greensburg Salem School District added some spice to their evening Wednesday as they sampled entries in an inaugural chili cook-off, part of the annual pre-homecoming festival and bonfire at the high school.

The chili offerings included recipes from amateur chefs as well as dishes prepared by professionals in the local restaurant community.

The event in Greensburg featured games, music and booths sponsored by school club and booster organizations.

At a pep rally, the school marching band and cheerleaders performed and the crowd was introduced to the homecoming court members: Taylor Carr, Mackenzie Halfhill, Ella Henry, Natalia Kane, Lea Kasmer, Ashlan Price, Giavanna Rosensteel and Alethea Tressler.

Proceeds from the pre-homecoming event will benefit student activities sponsored by the student council and club booster groups.

The homecoming football game will pit the Golden Lions against Mt. Pleasant Area on Friday at Offutt Field.
