Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation officials are looking for a few good hobgoblins.

Well, you probably don’t have to dress specifically as a hobgoblin, but parks officials are seeking additional volunteers to help with this weekend’s Hobgoblin Hike, set for Saturday at Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver.

“Volunteers age 15 and older are needed to dress in costume and makeup for 13 themed ‘scare stations’ along the half-mile outdoor hike path,” said parks spokeswoman Lauren Jones.

Scare stations include a clown tent, morgue, toxic dump, cemetery, haunted maze and a haunted house. Jones said organizers will have a limited number of masks and props to be loaned to volunteers if needed.

“We encourage group participation and we can put groups together at scare stations,” Jones said. “The more, the better!”

A training session for interested volunteers will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Cedar Creek Park Activity Center, which is just past the GAP Trail on the right along the park’s main road. Volunteers under 15 are permitted but must be accompanied by an adult.

There are also volunteer opportunities for trail guides who set the pace for participants, and will carry a flashlight so scare station volunteers know who they are.

Jones said the hikes will go on regardless of the weather.

“Volunteers need to dress appropriately,” she said. “We’ll have a party for all volunteers after the hike with food and drinks.”

Hikes will run continuously from 7-9 p.m., with groups of 20-50 visitors heading through.

A second hike is scheduled for Oct. 23 at Twin Lakes Park in Hempfield, but Jones said that event is fully staffed with volunteers.

To volunteer, or for more information, call 724-830-3959 or email cpaniche@co.westmoreland.pa.us. The park is at 453 Evergreen Drive, Rostraver.
