2 injured after pickup, tractor trailer collide on Route 22 in Derry Township
The driver and a passenger in a pickup truck were injured Thursday afternoon when the truck collided with a tractor trailer traveling westbound on Route 22 in Derry Township.
The crash was reported at 1:50 p.m. near the Rushwood Road intersection, east of New Alexandria.
According to fire Capt. Justin Horrell of the Derry Township Volunteer Fire Department, the pickup truck was crossing Route 22, coming from Stone Jug Road onto Rushwood Road when its front end collided with the back of the tractor trailer.
The condition of the pickup truck occupants was not available. State police said the investigation is ongoing.
The collision caused the passenger in the pickup truck to be ejected, and the driver crawled out of the vehicle, Horrell said. Both crash victims were transported to a hospital by ambulance.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, according to Horrell.
The crash prompted the closure of Route 22 between the intersection of Route 981 at Sheetz and the Meadows and the intersection at Rushwood Road — where the crash occurred. The road re-opened about 4 p.m., according to a Westmoreland 911 supervisor.
