A Delmont man was sentenced Friday to serve nearly two years in jail for possession of child pornography.

Michael Goodis, 53, was convicted by a Westmoreland County jury in October of 32 felony counts in connection with at least 30 different pornographic images found stored on his computer equipment depicting children as young as 7 being forced to commit sexual acts.

Jurors also found Goodis guilty of distributing those images and using a computer for that purpose.

“This defendant was not directly responsible for creating this child pornography but his conduct still has an impact on the victims,” said Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher Feliciani.

Goodis was ordered to serve a sentence of one year, less a day, to two years, less a day, in the county jail as well as another seven years on probation. He will be required to register as a convicted sex offender for 25 years upon his release.

Assistant District Attorney Jim Lazar said at least two of the girls in the videos were identified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and submitted victim impact statements to the judge that were not read aloud in court.

Lazar said it is likely none of the victims were local.

During the trial, prosecutors contended Goodis downloaded the pornographic videos from the internet and shared copies with other users, including an undercover investigator, between July and September 2014. The criminal charges were filed against Goodis in 2017. Lazar said prosecutors found a computer backup device owned by Goodis containing the pornographic images.

During his trial, Goodis denied any involvement in downloading and sharing of the videos.

He has been in jail since his trial ended and appeared at his sentencing hearing remotely from the county lockup. In a lengthy statement, he pleaded with the judge for leniency but never mentioned the crimes for which he was convicted.

“In the time I have been in prison my entire unit has been on lockdown and I contracted covid. I request you show me mercy and let me go home and care for my father,” Goodis said.
