A Fayette County attorney who completed a probation sentence for offering to launder drug money for clients had his law license suspended for five years, the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania announced Wednesday.

The license suspension is retroactive to April 2020 when the temporary suspension started for Tancredi W. Calabrese, 37, of Uniontown, according to a report released Wednesday.

“I apologize, once more, to those that I aggrieved so deeply,” he said when reached by the Trib. “I appreciate the (Disciplinary) Board and my colleagues in the law community for their time and consideration. I’m looking forward to putting this behind me and moving forward with my family.”

Calabrese was arrested in February 2020 after an undercover state police investigation that found he offered to launder drug money for clients. State police used a confidential informant to contact Calabrese about starting a business and laundering money acquired through cocaine sales, according to court papers.

Calabrese took additional steps to set up the business and open a bank account, police said.

He pleaded guilty in June 2021 to a charge of attempted dealing in proceeds of unlawful acts and was sentenced to four years of probation. Early release from probation was granted in April by a county judge, according to online court records.

The disciplinary board report also showed that there was a general pattern of neglect regarding eight clients. Calabrese accepted money from them, some of which was not handled properly, and failed to do work in their cases or return any funds he didn’t earn.

Testimony before the board indicates that Calabrese was in recovery from a drug addiction, according to the report. The disciplinary board opted not to disbar him because he accepted full responsibility and other mitigating factors.
