Law enforcement officers took to Route 22 on Wednesday morning, not looking for speeders but to carry a torch representing the Special Olympics.

The Flame of Hope moved through Murrysville in advance of the Pennsylvania Summer Games at Penn State University starting June 2. Murrysville officers, who have been participating in the torch run for years, as well as North Huntingdon police, Westmoreland County sheriff’s deputies and agents from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, among others, took part in the annual event.

The torch will eventually make it to the opening ceremonies. Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics promotes awareness of local competitions and their importance in the lives of athletes.
