Former nursing aide sentenced for jewelry theft from dementia patients

A former nursing aide was ordered to serve nearly 10 months in jail for the theft of jewelry from dementia patients at a Murrysville nursing home.
Christina Louise Ankney, 40, of Braddock, Allegheny County, pleaded guilty in April to two misdemeanor counts of theft and receiving stolen property in connection with two incidents last year at Redstone Highlands in Murrysville.
Police said Ankney took rings from two patients and later sold them at a North Versailles pawn shop. In one case, police said Ankney pried wedding and engagement rings from the fingers of one elderly patient.
Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Tim Krieger on Monday sentenced Ankney to serve 306 days to 23 months in jail and ordered her immediate parole after she was given credit for the time she spent in jail following her arrest last year.
Ankney was ordered to pay $9,500 in restitution to the family of one victim and $130 to Redstone Highlands.
