Funeral arrangements have been announced for Gerald “Jerry” Lucia, the longtime Mt. Pleasant mayor and fire chief, who died unexpectedly at his home Friday.

Friends of Lucia, 76, will be received in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc. at 406 E. Washington St., Mount Pleasant from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A blessing service will be held at the funeral home 9:30 a.m. Wednesday followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Kosisko as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Visitation Cemetery.

The Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a memorial service 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Lucia, who was a volunteer firefighter for 46 years, the last 31 of them as chief, had responded to a fire call late Thursday night, according to firefighters.

Lucia’s death is being treated as a line-of-duty death because it occurred within 24 hours of a fire call.

Lucia is survived by his wife, Diana Dublinsky Lucia; son, Gerald “Jerry” Lucia of Mt. Pleasant; daughter, Nicole Butts and her husband, John, of Greencastle; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher and Krystal Lucia and Claire, Caroline and Morgan Butts and a sister, Patricia Midden of Ligonier.

In addition to his parents, Patrick and Mary Costabile Lucia, he was predeceased by a sister, Annette McGuinness and a brother, Joseph Lucia.
