Greensburg-area kids have the opportunity to learn what it takes to be a firefighter while getting a glimpse into different areas of the first responder profession.

The Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department will partner with the Greensburg Police Department and Mutual Aid Ambulance to hold the second annual Chief John Edward Hutchinson Emergency Services Youth Camp on June 8.

The free event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lynch Field Complex and will introduce kids ages 11-17 to the fire department’s foam truck, the police department’s drug-detection dog, the ambulance service, the Westmoreland County Coroner, the Greensburg Bloodhound Team, the STAT MedEvac helicopter and the county’s hazardous materials response team and Rough Terrain Fire and Rescue team.

The fire department will supervise interactive activities for kids.

Sign-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. near the fire department’s drill tower. Those interested can obtain a registration form in advance at the department or at gbgfire.com.
