Greensburg loosens parking restrictions during coronavirus pandemic
Greensburg will ease up on parking tickets during the coronavirus pandemic, the city police department announced Wednesday on Facebook.
Drivers will be allowed to park at meters without paying for up to one hour, according to the announcement.
The move is being made to help local businesses, which are struggling to cope with the loss of customers during the pandemic.
“We want to encourage community helping community at this time and not have to be worried about plugging a meter to run in and pick something up, or deal with a parking ticket when you return to your vehicle,” the department wrote in its announcement.
The new policy will remain in place until April 1.
Parking for multiple hours in a metered spot without paying still is not allowed, according to the department. Those working downtown should not park at meters, and those who linger for multiple hours in a space will be ticketed.
