Greensburg Salem School District’s business manager has crafted his last budget for the district.
This week, just as the district passed its 2019-20 budget, James Meyer announced he’s resigning in August to take the same position in the Yough School District.
Meyer joined Greensburg Salem as assistant business manager in 2006 and was promoted to his current position in 2009.
He most recently made $106,500 a year.
“He’s like the guru. When somebody has a question, they call Jim,” said school board President Ron Mellinger.
Board member Frank Gazze voted no as a joke when the board approved Meyer’s resignation, saying Meyer was too important to let go.
Meyer said the biggest challenge of his job was creating balanced budgets as state-mandated costs — such as pension contributions and payments to charter schools — skyrocketed.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity (to work at Greensburg Salem), and I’m going to miss a lot of people here,” Meyer said.
The school board Wednesday approved advertising for a new business manager.
At the same meeting, the board approved a $47 million budget for next school year which included a 1.5-mill real estate tax increase. It marked the 17th time in 19 years that Greensburg Salem has raised taxes.
