Penelope Hantz, 3, and Glenn Moyer, superintendent of parks and recreation (black shirt), cut the ribbon after the extensive renovations were completed in Spring Avenue Park in Greensburg on Thursday.

City officials unveiled a new and improved Spring Avenue Park in Greensburg’s Fifth Ward Thursday.

The city began looking at rehabbing the 1.4-acre site in 2020.

Greensburg received about $600,000 in funding for the design and the construction through the city’s Community Development Block Grant program. Sports and Recreation Associates was awarded a $218,000 contract for new playground elements at Spring Avenue Park, including swings and slides.

Work included improvements to a basketball half court near Spring Avenue and an updated playground area farther from the street.

In addition to the Spring Avenue site, the city maintains seven other neighborhood playgrounds.
