The final hearing for the proposed mini casino in Westmoreland Mall is scheduled next week before the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

On Wednesday, Stadium Casino officials will present to the board, who will then approve, deny or postpone the license that could put the casino in the former Bon-Ton department store. Officials will also consider the approval of a license for table games, said board spokesperson Richard McGarvey.

Stadium Casino officials will still need approval from Hempfield Township for construction projects if they are given the license by the board, McGarvey added.

Plans for the proposed $131 million casino show about 750 slot machines and 30 table games for the 100,000-square-foot location. Stadium Casino LLC purchased a $40.1 million license for the mini casino last year.

The hearing comes after a December public meeting where company officials said proposed plans could bring about 500 mostly full-time jobs with average annual wages of $43,000. A timeline for construction has not yet been revealed, but mall officials started demolition inside the store in April.

The possibility of the casino also makes space for potential new restaurants and nightlife. Guy Fieri’s Taco Joint could be one of the options moving forward, along with a nightlife venue and an area for sports betting.

The meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. in Harrisburg, will also be streamed live on the board’s website, gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov. McGarvey said casino officials will present to the board at the beginning of the meeting, and board members will vote on the license after hearing all petitions.
