The North Side apartment complex where former NFL player Terrelle Pryor and his girlfriend, Shalaya Briston, lived is seeking the remaining rent due on the apartment they shared, claiming the couple violated the lease’s rules and regulations.
A hearing on the matter is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday at District Judge Derwin Rushing’s courtroom on Pittsburgh’s North Side. If they don’t attend the hearing, a judgment may be made against them for $1,827.60 in remaining unpaid rent plus $400 in legal fees incurred by Heinz Lofts, according to the complaint filed last week in Rushing’s office.
Representatives from Heinz Lofts didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment. Pryor’s criminal attorney, Steve Colafella, said he was not representing Pryor in the case and declined comment. Briston’s attorney, Lee Rothman, didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
The landlord/tenant complaint was filed 10 days after a Nov. 30 incident at the apartment. Pittsburgh police allege that Briston stabbed Pryor in a tussle at the apartment.
Briston drove Pryor to the hospital afterward, according to criminal complaints filed in the case.
Briston, 24, originally from Munhall, is charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault and has been in the Allegheny County Jail without bond.
Pryor, 30, a Jeannette native, is charged with simple assault in the incident.
Both Rothman and Colafella opposed a request last week by the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to postpone preliminary hearings in the case until Thursday, a move that was granted.
Pryor is recovering from his injuries and drove to his court appearance last week, after which he said the court should grant Briston bond.
After a stellar high school career at Jeannette, Pryor starred at Ohio State and went on to play for nine NFL teams, including the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders. He has been a free agent since being released earlier this year by Jacksonville.
