Almost 130 Hempfield middle school students were honored virtually this week after an annual Academic Breakfast was canceled because of the coronavirus.
Each year, students from Harrold, Wendover and West Hempfield middle schools who finish in the top 10% of their classes attend the breakfast where they are awarded for the achievement, said Superintendent Tammy Wolicki.
“Students from all three middle schools are awarded for their achievement at the high school during the month of May with a breakfast ceremony, receive a certificate of achievement, and individual recognition,” she said.
This year, the award ceremony was held virtually. On Wednesday, students gathered with their families on Google Meet where they presented a slide about themselves that honored their accomplishments and discussed their future plans.
Thirty-nine students from Harrold, 46 from Wendover and 42 from West Hempfield attended the event online.
