’Tis the season for hot tunes, winter traditions, Swiftie fun and more this weekend in Westmoreland County. Shake off your week and head out to some of these events.
Community Light Up Night
Visit Amos K. Hutchinson Elementary School’s campus to view its dazzling lights display Friday night. This event will also have a fundraiser for the Hutchinson Playground Project.
There will also be Christmas carols and hot chocolate at the parklet on Brandon Street, cookie decorating and “reindeer food” making at the Southwest Fire Hall, and story time and Santa at the Church of the Brethren.

Destination Soultown
Do you find your groove with soul and funk music from the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s? Boogie on down to the Lamp Theatre in Irwin this Sunday afternoon for a red-hot show chock full of classic tunes from the Sensational Soul Cruisers.
Boasting a band of horns, vocalists, keyboardists and an excellent rhythm section, this group will have you on your feet and dancing for the duration of the show. They will feature songs from artists including the Temptations; the Jackson 5; Otis Redding; Marvin Gaye; Sly and the Family Stone; Earth, Wind and Fire; and many more.

Taylor Swift BirthTay ParTAY
Celebrate the birthday of pop superstar Taylor Swift on Saturday at the Green Beacon Gallery. The $5 admission event is for Swifties of all ages.
Make friendship bracelets and test your Taylor knowledge at Mastermind Trivia. Don’t forget to dress up in your Eras finery to enter the costume contest and win a basket of themed prizes.

Three Centuries of Christmas
History buffs who also love the holidays can venture to Historic Hanna’s Town this weekend to learn about the evolution of American Christmas traditions. The tour will include decorations and dress specific to these time periods and will provide fun and insightful tidbits about how traditions were brought to the United States and melded together to make the Christmas festivities we know and love today. There will even be tasty treats.
There will be five tours, beginning between 10:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Preregistration is required at 724-836-1800, ext. 210. Cost is $10 for Westmoreland Historical Society members and $12 for nonmembers.

‘Guys and Dolls’
The Theatre Factory is presenting two performances of this 1950 Tony Award-winning musical this weekend. Come out to see this production, directed by Claire Ivy Stoller, and hear familiar show tune staples such as “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat” and “Luck Be a Lady.”
