The holidays are upon us, and it’s time to get into the spirit with some fun and community. Here are some things to do this weekend:
A North Pole Christmas
The Lamp Theatre and Stage Right are throwing an all-out Christmas extravaganza this weekend. On Saturday, they will hold A North Pole Christmas, featuring Stage Right students in a mini-musical, “North Pole Musical.”
The event will also have a screening of holiday classic “A Muppet Christmas Carol.” And if you haven’t had a chance to mail your letter to the North Pole yet, Santa will visit for pictures. For refreshments, there will be cookies and hot chocolate.
The event will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $24 for general admission. To buy yours, visit lamptheatre.org.
‘Babes in Toyland’
An often underrated holiday classic, “Babes in Toyland” is a show full of magic and adventure. It’s a perfect performance for those who are young and young at heart, and multiple shows this weekend are a great opportunity to take the family to the theater.
“Babes in Toyland” will be held at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. There will be three performances: one at 7:30 p.m. Friday and two Saturday, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Find tickets at geyerpac.com.
Home for the Holidays at the Palace Theatre
The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will spread holiday cheer with its Home for the Holidays concert. With special guests and accompanied by the All-Star Choir of Westmoreland County, the symphony will be there with bells on. The concert will end with the bombastic finale of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”
Held at the Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg, the show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets range from $20 to $75. Get yours at westmorelandculturaltrust.org.
‘A Christmas Carol’
Also at the Palace Theatre this weekend is yet another holiday classic, Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” This new adaptation will star John Noble as the crotchety Ebenezer Scrooge. Better than ever, this production will bring joy and light to your holiday season.
The show will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $10-$40. Get yours at westmorelandculturaltrust.org.
Festivus Fest
For a different kind of holiday celebration, check out Festivus Fest at Green Beacon Gallery. Festivus is a pre-Christmas holiday popularized by the sitcom “Seinfeld,” and it has some fun traditions of its own.
For example, feel free to participate in the Airing of Grievances or the Feats of Strength. There will also be a “White Elephant” gift exchange, so be sure to bring a gift — and/or a dish for the potluck. You can also BYOB, if you’re of age. There will be no cover for the event.
It’s a perfect opportunity to check out the artwork that Green Beacon Gallery has to offer.
The event begins at 7 p.m. Saturday at 235 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. See more at greenbeacongallery.com.
