It may be tempting to curl up with a blanket and a piping-hot beverage this weekend to escape the frigid temperatures, but with so much going on in Westmoreland County, why not risk the chill and do something fun? Here are some ideas.

Art on Tap: Casino Night

Treat yourself to an old-fashioned casino night at the Westmoreland Museum of Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg, this Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. Their Art on Tap event will be full of entertainment, light bites and fun.

Live Casino Pittsburgh will provide free games of blackjack, and Jerry DeMaria will croon some timeless tunes to set the atmosphere.

The event will take place in the museum’s Cantilever Gallery. Cocktails will be available, and each ticket includes one drink ticket from the otherwise cash bar. The event is 21+ and tickets are $12 for members, $15 for nonmembers. Get registered at thewestmoreland.org.

Irwin Chocolate Tour

Take a break from that New Year’s resolution to give up sugar from 4 to 8 p.m. this Friday. Participating businesses in downtown Irwin will have chocolate samples, special chocolate drinks and desserts and specials. Purchases from participating businesses will gain you entry into a raffle for a free chocolate-filled gift basket from Gift Basket World & Candy, featuring Sarris and McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate.

The Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., will offer a free screening of the Gene Wilder film classic “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” The show will start at 8 p.m., so fill up on treats beforehand. Learn more at lamptheatre.org.

One-Act Play Festival

The Geyer Performing Arts Center will be hosting its annual One-Act Play Festival this weekend. One-act plays are shorter than your average performance — often, they will be around half an hour long. So this is a great chance to see a variety of up-and-coming plays in one setting.

The festival will include “Dream Girlfriend” by Jordan Gilbert, “The Perhaps” by F.J. Hartland, “The Hunchback of Marshall Avenue” by Randy Gross and “Disrupter” by Emmie White.

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Tickets are $15. Get yours at geyerpac.com.

Wedding Expo

The holidays is one of the most popular times to get engaged, and if you’re one of those lucky couples getting ready to tie the knot, this weekend is a great chance to get ideas — and find vendors — for your special day.

The Greensburg Garden and Civic Center will be hosting its second annual wedding expo from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event will showcase vendors who offer wedding gowns and formal wear, music and entertainment, catering and cakes, honeymoon travel, photography and more.

Head over to the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, to see everything wedding. To learn more, visit westmorelandculturaltrust.org.

The Purple Xperience

Prince captivated the world with his songwriting, guitar playing and singing for decades. His many hits are now forever classics. The Purple Xperience will bring his legacy to life at the Palace Theatre this Friday night.

Coming from Minneapolis, Minn., also home of Prince, the five-piece tribute group strives to have the world’s most authentic Prince and the Revolution act. The band features frontman Marshall Charloff, who is multi-talented and, in fact, recorded with Prince on the album “94 East.”

Tickets range in price from $29 to $69. The show will be held at 8 p.m. Friday at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg. Visit westmorelandculturaltrust.org for tickets.
