Before the craziness of Thanksgiving preparations and family visits, this weekend is a great time to infuse some holiday cheer — or enjoy a little calm and delay the “most wonderful time of the year” just a little longer. Here are a few things to get out and experience this weekend.

‘Ring of Fire’

Lovers of Johnny Cash’s music won’t want to miss the jukebox musical “Ring of Fire,” which will have three performances at The Palace Theatre this weekend.

With songs including “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line” and “A Boy Named Sue” scoring this show, you’ll want to dance in your seat along with the many classic tunes.

Shows will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, along with 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday. The Palace Theatre is at 21 W. Otterman St. in Greensburg. Tickets are $45 for adults and $28 for students. To find out more and get tickets, visit westmorelandculturaltrust.org.

Friendsgiving at the Green Beacon Gallery

Whether you won’t be seeing family for the upcoming holiday or you can’t get enough of Thanksgiving food, head to the Green Beacon Gallery on Sunday for a potluck Thanksgiving. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options will be available, and sharing is caring — whip up one of your traditional family recipes and bring it to share with everyone.

The event will start at 4 p.m. Sunday and include a meal and a viewing of the “Thankskilling” horror films. Dress in your fanciest holiday attire if you like. Green Beacon Gallery is at 235 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg. Learn more at greenbeacongallery.com.

Overly’s opening weekend

Overly’s Country Christmas is back for another year of bringing the holiday spirit to the region. The old-fashioned Christmas village and lights display provides holiday magic to the area — and through charitable efforts, brings sparkle to the lives of the less fortunate.

Overly’s will be open from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting. One dollar per carload will be donated to WTAE’s Project Bundle-Up.

Overly’s Country Christmas is at 116 Blue Ribbon Lane, Mt. Pleasant Township. To learn more, visit overlys.com.

‘The Sound of Music’

See the timeless Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music” brought to life on the stage this weekend. Following the story of Maria, a flighty nun who becomes a governess — and later, stepmother — for the large von Trapp family, the show is a tale of love, bravery and, of course, music.

“The Sound of Music” will be staged at the Geyer Performing Arts Center, 111 Pittsburgh St., Scottdale. Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Find yours at geyerpac.com.

Back in Black AC/DC tribute

Get a dose of classic rock at the Lamp Theatre with tried-and-true AC/DC tribute Back in Black. AC/DC is known for hits such as “Hell’s Bells,” “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap,” “Thunderstruck” and the song that gave this tribute band its name.

The exhilarating and accurate tribute show will be held at 8 p.m. Friday night at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin. Tickets are $33 each. Get yours at lamptheatre.org.
