This past week has been long and chilly, but this weekend should be sunny and warm. Shake off that workday gloom and have some fun in the community with these events.

Sweets on the Streets

You sweet tooth is calling you down to this sugarfest in downtown Greensburg this Saturday. From noon to 4 p.m., businesses will have sweet treats from local bakers to savor while you shop. A variety of confections will be available at retailers including Crossroads Boutique, Mancuso’s Shoe Repair, 12th Octave and many more.

Treats will also be available at places such as the Greensburg Hempfield Library, the Westmoreland Cultural Trust and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Bakers include Bee’s Sweets Pittsburgh, McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate, School House Bakery, Little Garden Kitchen and more than a dozen others.

Participants in Sweets on the Streets can also vote for their favorite scarecrow in the October Scarecrow Contest at select businesses.

Get tickets for $20 online or $25 day of the event, if supplies last. Official bracelets can be picked up during the time of the event at McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate. To learn more about the event and see a list of vendors, visit shopgreensburgpa.com.

Evil Dead: The Musical

Fans of Sam Raimi’s campy horror-comedy “Evil Dead” franchise won’t want to miss this stage musical. Filled with familiar characters and references — but also catchy, original music — this production is hilarious, outrageous and very much not recommended for kids under 17.

The show is by Greensburg Civic Theatre and all of this weekend’s performances will be held at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, Greensburg. Showtimes will be Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $15 for students. Buy yours at gctheatre.org.

Greensburg YMCA Fall Fest

Head over to the Greensburg YMCA on Friday night for a fun fall festival. The kid-friendly event will include swimming in the Pumpkin Pond, crafts, a bounce house, a caricature atist and a special visit from the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department.

There will also be music and food to fuel the party. This is an opportunity to explore and learn about your local YMCA and everything that they have to offer year-round. No registration or membership to the YMCA is required to enjoy this event, so head on over from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday to the Greensburg YMCA, 101 S. Maple Ave., Greensburg.

Bob Seger experience

Do you love some old time rock ‘n roll? Dance down to the Lamp Theatre this weekend for a double dose of Bob Seger tribute Hollywood Nights. Seger has plenty of hits for the tribute band to choose from, and they will perform two energetic, rocking shows this Saturday and Sunday.

Seger brought his working-man sound to the radio in the ’70s and ’80s with tunes such as “Night Moves” and “Against The Wind.”

Shows will be held at the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin, at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets for each are $44. Learn more at lamptheatre.org.

Parchment and potions

Halloween is coming up fast, and it’s time to prepare at Mystic Market: Parchment and Potions. Vendors will be set up at the Hempfield Athletic Complex, but interactive experiences such as tarot readers, mediums and reiki also will be available.

Crystals, toys, wands, metaphysical items and more will be available for purchase. This is a good chance to explore your whimsical side at the most magical time or year. The event will be held noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Hempfield Athletic Complex, 220 Forbes Trail Road. See more at Mystic Market PA’s Facebook page.
