Fire crews put out a blaze at Ianni’s Pizzeria in Delmont early in the morning on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024. The restaurant suffered significant damage from the fire, according to a post on Ianni’s social media.

The Ianni’s Pizzeria location in Delmont suffered extensive damage in a fire early Sunday morning.

Crews from Delmont, White Valley, Murrysville, Slickville, Claridge and Forbes volunteer fire departments were dispatched to the restaurant shortly before 4 a.m., according to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher.

The fire departments worked to put out the fire for about two hours, the dispatcher said.

The fire caused significant damage to the restaurant, according to a post on Ianni’s Facebook page.

“We have no idea what started it or what happened,” restaurant management wrote in the post. “We are beyond blessed that none of our employees or neighbors were hurt.”

Ianni’s thanked the police and fire crews that responded to the fire and customers who have reached out with words of support.

According to the post, the restaurant has seen an increase in sales following a positive review earlier this month by David Portnoy, founder of media company Barstool Sports and one of the foremost amateur pizza reviewers in the country.

“It had been the first time things seemed normal since covid and this crazy economy,” the post said of Portnoy’s review. “This is the absolute worst time for us to have such extensive damage to our building.”

The restaurant aims to open again as soon as possible, the post said.

“We are so blessed to know we have such an amazing community that we call family standing behind us,” the post said. “We are in utter shock and exhausted. We are just going to take a minute to breath and figure out our next steps.”

Ianni’s, which also has locations in Vandergrift and Derry Township, plans to open a new restaurant near Johnstown — Ianni’s at Pickin’ Chicken.
