Irwin businesswoman will fill vacant post on council

Irwin Borough council selected an Irwin woman active with the Irwin Business & Professional Association to fill a vacancy on council.
Amanda Morrison, who operates the non-profit Come Talk Inc., was unanimously selected by council Tuesday to fill the vacancy created by the resignation last month of Leslie Savage. Morrison will fill the remainder of Savage’s term, which expires in December 2025.
“I love the town of Irwin and I want to contribute more,” Morrison said of her reason for wanting a seat on council. The resource center she operates provides support and suicide prevention information.
Morrison frequently attended council meetings in the past year.
Only one other person had met the deadline for applying for the vacancy, said Council President Rick Burdelski, who was re-elected president of council for a two-year term.
It was the second time in five months that borough council filled a vacancy due to a resignation. Councilman Nick Powanda was appointed in September to fill the remainder of Michael Yunn’s term. Powanda won a full four-year term in the November election.
In other business, Patrolman Alex Gillingham was promoted to corporal, retroactive to Jan. 1.
