Irwin reviews plans for event center expansion
Developers plan to expand the restaurant at the former Antonelli Event Center in Irwin with an enclosure of what had been an open air seating area and the addition of a new outdoor patio.
The proposed changes were presented to the Irwin Planning Commission.
The project will encompass 1,620 square feet at what is now the Core Event Center at 100 Colony Drive, according to Keith Andreyko, an architect with Integrity Design LLC of Bridgeville, who presented the plans Tuesday. The Core Event Center is owned by Donald Albensi, who also owns the building.
The open air setting for what is now Core Restaurant will be enclosed to create a four-season restaurant and bar, Andreyko said. The awning over the outdoor eating area will be removed and a metal roof installed in its place, Andreyko said.
A 680-square-foot patio dining area with heating to make it comfortable on cold nights will be added to the restaurant, Andreyko said.
The renovations will have a manufactured stone siding. There will be improvements to the entrance and the use of composite wood.
While most of the facility complies with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Andreyko said a family restroom will be added, Andreyko said.
Albensi, who owns Core Event Center LLC, which is part of Albensi Management, signed the application the land development permit.
Zachary Kansel, borough solicitor, said the review by the planning commission and approval by borough council was necessary because there would be some disturbance of the property. Andreyko said that four parking spaces would be eliminated, but there is sufficient amount of parking at an adjacent overflow lot.
Irwin council is expected to consider the recommendation to approve the land development plan when council meets on April 10.
