Five monthly flea markets are being planned by the Jeannette Redevelopment Authority as a fundraiser to cover costs related to property transfers, said acting chairperson and organizer Jo Miller.

Sellers, food trucks and vendors will pay the authority a fee to participate in the events. Miller said money raised may be put toward costs stemming from sales of authority- or city-owned parcels, such as deed transfers and other administrative fees.

“We’re getting a lot of people interested in purchasing some of the lots and properties and buildings,” she said.

The first flea market is Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Magee Avenue parking lot, behind the American Legion. Sellers will be charged $10 per space and food trucks and vendors will pay $40.

There is no advance registration, Miller said anyone who wants to participate can show up that morning. Shoppers get in for free.

“It was something that our little town was lacking,” she said.

The flea markets will be held the following Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: May 26, June 23, July 28, Aug. 25 and Sept. 22.
