The Westmoreland Fair kicked off Friday morning in Mount Pleasant Township with a team of more than 25 judges working together to select the best out of more than 8,400 “inside” entries, which includes foods, crafts and even wine and beer. Over the course of five hours, judges worked with approximately 135 superintendents who helped to move the entries and record the judges selections, all in the name of searching for the blue ribbon winners.
Livestock judging will take place over the next week.
Highlighting the fair Friday night was the Rafter Z Rodeo, which included a Lil’ Buckaroo rodeo for kids before bringing in the bucking broncos, bull riders, and barrel racers. The fair runs daily through Saturday, Aug. 24, with each night featuring different entertainment in the Peoples Grandstand Arena. Daily attractions include food stands, rides and games, as well as the canine entertainers The Marvelous Mutts, who perform acrobatic feats on land and in water.
