Laurelville Retreat Center will offer week-long day camps for children ages 5-12 beginning June 22 as the region moves into green status.
Although sleep-away camp sessions have been canceled for the summer, a camp spokeswoman said day camp events — which have been fashioned to meet CDC guidelines — will be held June 22 through July 31. The camps meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for an extra fee.
The camp is affiliated with the Mennonite Church, but is open to all children.
Children may attend up to two weeks during these dates: Week 1, June 22-26; Week 2, June 29-July 3; Week 3, June July 6-10; Week 4, 13-17; Week 5, July 20-24; and Week 6, July 27-31
The 600-acre camp in the Laurel Highlands emphasizes fun, recreation, crafts, music, Bible lessons and traditional camp activities. Trained counselors and staff run the camps, and adaptations have been made amidst the covid-19 pandemic.
Laurelville provides packed lunches and snacks. The cost has been reduced to $100 per week per child because of the generosity of several local sponsors. Needs-based scholarships are available at Laurelville.org/scholarships.
