Pennsylvania State Police troopers, families, friends and residents pay respect during the third annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service to honor those who have given up their lives to serve and protect their communities at Robertshaw Amphitheater in Saint Clair Park in Greensburg, on Thursday, May 16, 2014.

A permanent Law Enforcement Officers Memorial will be unveiled Thursday in Greensburg as part of an annual service remembering officers killed in the line of duty.

The event will be held at noon, weather permitting, in the courtyard of the Westmoreland County Courthouse. The permanent memorial is affixed to the concrete wall along North Main Street.

Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole Ziccarelli will be accompanied by local, county and state leaders that helped to fund it.

The service, in its fourth year, honors 28 fallen officers in Westmoreland County since 1903. The event, planned by the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office, coincides with National Police Week, which was established in 1962, according to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.
