May Mart plant sale returns for 56th year in Greensburg

The Westmoreland Garden Council will host its 56th annual May Mart plant sale May 2 and 3.

The sale will be held on the front lawn of the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, 951 Old Salem Road, from noon to 7 p.m. May 2 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 3.

A variety of perennials, annual hanging baskets, vegetables and herbs will be sold. Plant sales typically bring in up to $7,500 to $8,000, about a quarter of the center’s budget.

Plants can also be preordered until 2 p.m. Thursday, and vendor applications — $35 for council members and $70 for the general public — will close April 29. The Greenridge Garden Club, Mellowwood Farm & Greenhouse and 111 Juice Bar are among the vendors who will participate.
